Newbridge College marked World Book Day 2025 with a range of exciting and engaging literary activities, inviting students and staff to share in the magic of reading. The whole school embraced the spirit of the day with a series of fun, creative initiatives designed to foster a love for books and celebrate the power of storytelling.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was the ‘Teacher Shelfie’ competition, where students had to match each teacher with a photo of their bookshelf. It was a fun challenge that sparked many conversations about reading habits and favourite books across the school.
Another exciting event was the ‘Decorate Your Classroom Door’ competition, which proved to be fierce with some truly imaginative designs. After careful deliberation, the Library Prefects chose the top three winners:
- 1st Place: Ms. O’Brien’s ‘Wicked’ themed door, capturing the essence of the beloved Gregory Maguire novel with flair.
- 2nd Place: Ms. Hearne’s enchanting ‘Harry Potter’ door, which brought the magic of J.K Rowling’s Hogwarts to life.
- 3rd Place: Ms. Carey’s ‘Holes’ door, which creatively represented the classic novel by Louis Sachar.
The competition was a tough one, with many classrooms showcasing impressive decorations, but the deserving winners certainly earned their accolades.
A standout event of the day was the Literary Scavenger Hunt. Teachers wore lanyards adorned with either a book cover or the first line of a famous book. Students had to match each teacher with the correct title or first line to complete the hunt. It was an excellent way to get students thinking about literature in a fun and interactive manner. A special thank you goes to Mr. Doyle for masterminding this brilliant competition.
Finally, the Library Prefects ran the Book Recommendation Station, where students could recommend books they had enjoyed and pick up suggestions from their peers. This initiative allowed students to connect with one another over their love of reading, ensuring that everyone left with a new literary adventure to look forward to.
World Book Day at Newbridge College was a resounding success, thanks to the creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication of both staff and students. The school looks forward to continuing its commitment to fostering a love of reading throughout the year.
