Celebrating World Book Day 2006

World Book Day 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and creativity throughout our school, with a wide range of activities designed to promote a love of reading and storytelling among students.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was the ‘Decorate Your Classroom Door’ competition. Class groups embraced the challenge with imagination and flair, transforming their classroom doors into vibrant displays inspired by their favourite books. The corridors were filled with colour and creativity, showcasing the talent and teamwork of our students.
This year, each teacher also displayed a special World Book Day poster on the front door of their classroom, showcasing their favourite book. Our reading role models offered a wide range of inspiring and engaging titles, many of which sparked students’ interest and encouraged them to pick up something new to read.
Students also took part in the Ernest Hemingway 6-Word Story Competition, where they were challenged to tell a complete story in just six words. This proved to be both fun and thought-provoking, with many students producing clever, humorous, and surprisingly powerful mini-stories.
Another engaging activity involved teachers wearing word lanyards featuring the covers of their favourite books. Students were given clues and tasked with matching each book to the correct teacher. This created a real buzz around the school, encouraging conversations about reading while adding an interactive and playful element to the day.
Throughout the celebrations, students also enjoyed taking part in World Book Day quizzes, testing their knowledge of well-known texts, characters, and authors. These quizzes added an element of friendly competition and excitement.
A particular favourite among students was the ‘Book Recommendation Station’. This initiative encouraged students to share their love of reading by giving a book recommendation and, in return, receiving one from a fellow student. It was a simple yet effective way to spark interest in new books and foster a sense of community around reading.
Overall, World Book Day 2026 was a wonderful celebration of reading in our school. The variety of activities ensured that there was something for everyone, and the enthusiasm shown by students made the day a great success.
