Richie Conroy recently visited our school to deliver an engaging and insightful screenwriting workshop for students. As an experienced screenwriter who has written for Disney, Richie brought a wealth of industry knowledge and enthusiasm, immediately capturing the attention of those involved.
Throughout the session, students were given a wonderful insight into the craft of writing for the screen. Richie highlighted the importance of visual storytelling and effective dialogue, guiding students through the structure of a screenplay and offering practical tips on how to develop ideas into compelling scenes.
A particular highlight of the workshop was the focus on character creation. Students gained a deeper understanding of how to create believable and engaging characters by considering aspects such as motivation, personality, and backstory. Through interactive activities, they had the opportunity to develop their own characters and begin bringing them to life on the page.
This workshop was partially funded by Poetry Ireland through their Writers in Schools initiative, which supports schools in connecting with professional writers and fostering creativity among students.
Overall, the workshop was both inspiring and highly enjoyable, leaving students with a greater appreciation of screenwriting and a strong sense of confidence in their own creative abilities.
