TY / 5th Year League v Kilkenny

The TY/5th Year team headed to Kilkenny College to kick off the group stage of their League.  A high scoring game for the College saw Brian McCarthy grab a hat-trick of tries.

Owen Sheedy, Ruairí Harrington and Mark Connolly each chipped in with a brace of tries and Patrick Neary added one.  The hosts replied with just a solitary score.  Two conversions each from Thomas Flynn, Sheedy and Patrick Waters saw the College run out 62 - 5 winners.

Senior Friendly v St Munchins

The Senior 1sts were in the University of Limerick again on Friday to take on St. Munchins. The hosts got off the mark first making the most of an early College error to take a 7-0 lead. A Ciaran Mangan try, along with a Paddy Taylor conversion, saw the College draw level. Again, the Limerick side capitalised on an error by the College when a couple of phases later they crossed for five, but Rory Allen would finish off some impressive back running to level the game again. Shortly after, following similar movement, Allen linked with Rory Taylor who added five for the College. The tit-for-tat scoring continued and it was Munchin’s turn to level the game but Taylor, P carried well and got a try of his own to leave it 22-17 at the break.

The second half saw a bit of a slugfest in the middle of the park with both sides struggling to create real scoring opportunities but Daniel Cox would grab the first score of the half which Taylor, P converted. Todd Lawlor crossed shortly after as he gathered a clever kick through from Mangan. The southern side hit back with a try of their own. But up popped Lawlor again for his second to push the scoreboard to 41-22. With the clock in the final moments Lawlor linked well with Mangan who added his second. Taylor’s conversion left it 48-22 at the final whistle. Special mentions for Max Wilson and Dan Connolly.

Junior Friendly v Crescent Comp

Our Juniors hosted Crescent Comp in the College on Wednesday as preparation for the Junior Cup gets into gear. We started well and after a fine turnover, we went wide and Brion Donagh just got in at the right corner. Our next try was a great first phase strike finished off by Peter Murphy. Then straight from the restart, Max Rainbow spun out of a tackle and fed Johnny Martin who sprinted clear to give us a commanding 15:0 lead. In the second half, another great turnover when we pressed and blocked an attempted kick turned into a try for James McCarney. Crescent replied with a score of their own after a lapse in concentration in our defence close to our own line. Tadhg Murphy then finished a great team try and dusted himself off to land a great conversion too. Tom Martin finished off the scoring to lead us to a fine 34:5 win.
