On Thursday, 7th November, Newbridge College Library hosted a unique literacy initiative aimed at fostering a love for reading and engaging students with contemporary literature. The event took place in our school Theatre and was a resounding success, featuring celebrated author Méabh Collins, whose debut novel ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’ has captivated readers nationwide.
The event was designed to create a shared reading experience among all first year students, helping to build a greater sense of community and understanding through literature. Every first year student was given a copy of Méabh Collins’ novel, along with a reading scheme to guide them through the book.
During the event, Méabh shared her inspiration for writing the novel, offering insights into the creative process and the personal experiences that shaped her storytelling. The students were captivated by her engaging storytelling and candid reflections, which made the experience even more memorable and impactful.
We were also joined on the night by Joan Meehan from Kildare County Library, who spoke passionately about the resources available in our local library.
As we look ahead, we hope that this initiative will serve as the foundation for many more reading experiences at our school, inspiring a new generation of readers and thinkers who can connect with the world around them through the written word.
