South Leinster Schools Cross Country - Carlow
Newbridge College had a very successful day at the South Leinster Schools Cross Country in Carlow on Thursday 23rd January. A total of 26 athletes represented the school across the age groups, taking home 2 individual medals and 2 team medals on the day, along with a number of individual qualifiers for the Leinster Championships.
The minor girls team was first in action, finishing in 5th place overall. The team was made up of Ava Burns, Sarah Nestor, Isable Burns and Dearbhaile Ryan.
Our minor boys team led home by Harry Boland in 6th place just missed out on a medal in 4th overall. Harry was followed home by Niall Mayock and Jacob Dalton.
The junior girls of Kate Hargaden, Robyn Rainbow and Deryn Ryan saw the first team medal with the girls claiming bronze.
The junior boys had 10 athletes taking part, with Odhran MacDonald in 7th place leading home the team of Daniel Harrison, Aaron Wallace, Fionn Moran, Doncha O’Dwyer, Keegan Lyons, Jame Murphy, Dermot McGreevy and Fionn McConville. The boys finished in 7th place.
In the Intermediate girls, Rachel Keaney had a fine run to take 2nd spot. Followed closely by Hannah Cash in 4th and with Mia Lennon, Abbie Smith and Clea O’Sullivan the girls took the silver team medal.
Edwyn Ryan and Nathan Harris had strong runs in the intermediate boys and the day was rounded off with a strong return to action for Finn Craig, taking 3rd place.
Our individual and team qualifiers now look forward to the Leinster Schools Cross Country in a couple of weeks.
