Library Prefects
At Newbridge College, Library Prefects play a pivotal role as agents of change, dedicated to promoting reading for pleasure across the entire school community. These dedicated students not only assist in choosing new stock but also help keep our library organised and welcoming. They are always ready to lend a hand, whether it’s tidying up or providing homework assistance. Their enthusiasm and commitment make the library an even more supportive space for all.
Our Library Prefects create "Prefect Pick" posters that recommend a curated selection of books tailored for both Junior and Senior students, making it easier for their peers to discover exciting new reads available in the school library. By highlighting diverse genres and themes, these recommendations encourage students to explore literature beyond their usual preferences. Through this initiative, Library Prefects not only foster a culture of reading but also help cultivate a supportive environment where students feel inspired to share their literary discoveries, ultimately enhancing the overall appreciation for books at Newbridge College.
Author Visits
We are also privileged to host author visits that inspire and motivate our students. Esteemed writers like Booker Prize nominee Claire Keegan, Donal Ryan, Roisín Meaney and Méabh Collins have graced our library with their presence, sharing their insights and experiences. These interactions provide a unique glimpse into the creative process and ignite a passion for writing among our students.

Additionally, we have the pleasure of welcoming the talented seanchai, Niall de Burca, whose storytelling sessions captivate our imaginations and deepen our appreciation for the art of narrative. These events enrich our cultural landscape and encourage us to embrace the stories that shape our lives.
In conclusion, the Newbridge College Library is more than just a place to read; it is a dynamic hub of learning, creativity, and community. I urge each of you to explore its offerings, participate in its initiatives, and become part of this vibrant literary community. Together, let’s continue to foster a love of reading and learning that will serve us well beyond our time here.
